Years ago, amidst the excitement of Apple announcing the App Store for iOS and my ambition to develop my first game, I found inspiration in the spirited games of Pinochle played with my wife Sarah's family. Today, I want to share with you the heartwarming story behind this game, inspired by two incredible individuals: Bob and Shirley Bearce.
It all began during visits to Sarah's grandparents, Bob and Shirley, at their retirement home in Mesa, Arizona. Whenever we gathered to play pinochle, it was a spectacle of laughter, bickering, and pure joy. Bob, a man of endless wit, had a knack for expressing his frustrations with the game in the most entertaining ways possible. He'd ask me, "What's the matter with you?" when he wouldn't get the card passed he needed. His colorful commentary and Shirley's witty retorts filled the room with life and laughter.
Captivated by the charm of their banter, I started jotting down the funny remarks Bob would make during our games. Shirley, on the other hand, would merely grunt in disapproval at the sight of a misplay. Little did I know that these snippets of conversation would become the cornerstone of a project that would bring joy to countless people around the world.
In Pinochle Pro, players experience the fun of the game itself along with the dynamic interactions between animated characters. Their presence adds to the charm and nostalgia of the game.
Looking back, I am filled with gratitude for the inspiration that Bob and Shirley brought into my life. Their spirited banter, love of pinochle, and infectious humor continue to echo in the virtual world of Pinochle Pro. To this day, when we play in real life, family members say, "Grandma would be so disappointed" when they a misplay. It is a reminder that even the simplest moments shared with loved ones can spark creativity and joy beyond measure.
Bob and Shirley, unfortunately, passed away, but this game serves as a way to remember and honor them. Their spirit lives on in the joy and laughter that Pinochle Pro brings to players around the world.
